IDEA TSG is participating in the construction of Spain’s first green copper plant, which will produce 100,000 tonnes per year.
Grupo Cunext trusts IDEA as the EPCM engineering partner to carry out the construction of Spain’s first green copper plant. With an investment of 130 million euros, it has positioned itself as one of the most important industrial projects for the coming years in Córdoba.
Green Copper: Innovation and Circular Industry from Córdoba
Córdoba is set to host a pioneering industrial sustainability project: the construction of Spain’s first green copper plant, promoted by the Cunext Group. This new facility will mark a major milestone in circular economy and sustainable production, making a decisive contribution to the EU’s strategy for achieving autonomy in the supply of strategic raw materials such as copper—an essential element for industrialisation.
“With an investment of 130 million euros, the industrial plant will produce 100,000 tonnes per year of high-purity copper cathode from recycled copper, avoiding the emission of more than one million tonnes of CO₂.”

Located on a plot of over 300,000 m², the plant will initially produce 100,000 tonnes per year of high-purity copper cathodes from recycled materials using an innovative electrolysis process starting in 2026. In addition, it has been designed with the potential for future expansion to 130,000 tonnes per year, further strengthening its role as a benchmark in the energy and digital transition.
Thanks to an innovative electrolysis process with a zero-waste plant design, powered exclusively by recycled copper and supported by a future adjacent renewable energy facility, this installation will avoid the emission of more than one million tonnes of CO₂, positioning itself as a global benchmark in the sustainable production of strategic materials.
A key project for green reindustrialisation
The project has been recognised as strategic by the Andalusian Government and the Córdoba City Council. This industrial complex will not only contribute to reducing the use of primary copper but will also establish Córdoba as a key hub for the energy and digital transition. It is estimated to generate 80 direct jobs and hundreds more indirectly, boosting the region’s sustainable economic development.
Reference EPCM Engineering
At IDEA TSG, we are involved in this project as the engineering team responsible for the EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) service for the electrolysis plant. Our team supports Cunext through all phases of the project, from basic and detailed 3D engineering to supervision, coordination, and technical management.
- Among our responsibilities are:
- Complete engineering development including processes, civil, structural, piping, instrumentation, and electrical.
- Coordination of tenders, procurement management, and follow-up.
- Support in environmental procedures, construction permits, and commissioning.
- Technical management of the installation, as well as supervision and commissioning.
- Comprehensive management of risks, quality, and planning throughout the 30-month duration of the project.

Our experience in energy transition
Projects like this represent an opportunity to demonstrate IDEA TSG’s commitment to developing efficient, responsible, and sustainable technological solutions. Our experience in the sector, combined with our multidisciplinary capabilities in design, BIM modelling, and project management, enables us to add value from the initial design through to final execution.
The Cunext green copper plant represents a milestone in innovation and sustainability. At IDEA TSG, we are proud to be part of this key project for the circular economy and Europe’s energy future, reaffirming our commitment to engineering in the service of sustainability.
