MORE THAN A METHODOLOGY
BIM, MORE THAN A METHODOLOGY
A solution that combines each and every one of our services: Project Engineering, Recruitment & Outsourcing, Networks, Procurement & Construction, Architecture and Digital Transformation. The main basis of all of them being BIM, each contributing their own added value.
The successful implementation of BIM in IDEA Ingeniería is based on integrating this work methodology based on its three fundamental pillars: people, processes and technology.
The people
One of the fundamental goals of using BIM focuses on promoting effective communication through collaborative environments.
The processes
Effective use of BIM puts the focus on how valuable information and collaborative data management are.
The technology
Combining the strengths of BIM software tools to ensure the resulting solution meets the highest quality standards.
What is BIM?
To this end, the information contained in the BIM model is shared through a virtual space known as the Common Data Environment (or CDE) to make this information accessible to all the agents involved in the project.
BIM is therefore a multidimensional method that involves all phases of the project lifetime and provides a new concept of coordinated communication between designers, builders and other participants in the construction process.
1D
This first dimension marks the origin of the project. A solid conception of the idea, together with a feasibility analysis and a quality study of functionalities, are essential for the successful development of the project.
IDEA assists the client during the co-creation process so that, in addition to developing a clear idea that meets the expected requirements, other additional functionalities can be explored to add value to the product.
To this end, we specialise in the use of innovative methodologies, such as Design Thinking, which are aimed at finding creative solutions to create effective strategies that guarantee the product’s success.
2D
During this second dimension, all the protocols necessary to define the development of a Basic Project are defined in order to move forward with the design and calculation process.
IDEA offers a BIM document drafting service in which the goals and applications the model will have throughout the different project phases are identified in accordance with current standards and based on the requirements of each organisation.
3D
The third dimension improves the ability to understand and visualise the project to be completed, as well as the environment in which it is developed.
The concept of visualisation is perfectly integrated into BIM, facilitating the selection of the most optimal alternative or as a communication tool between the agents involved, so that all suggestions from technicians and/or users can be incorporated from the earliest design phases.
IDEA combines the advantages of BIM models with other Industry 4.0 trends, such as Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality, to create immersive solutions for top-level visualisations.
4D
This dimension analyses the planning of the project and every one of the works involved in carrying it out.
The introduction of the 3D component provides a clear and concise vision of the foreseen evolution, compared to reality, and makes it possible to coordinate the different main and secondary actors involved in the construction. Consequently, simulation prior to the execution phase facilitates early detection of errors or a much more thorough control throughout the construction process.
IDEA has extensive experience in the application of time control via BIM, which we have implemented particularly in EPC projects. In such projects, by integrating time into the process, the supply chain, terms and site operations have been optimised.
5D
In a similar way to time control, it is possible to keep an exhaustive control of the costs of the work.
Technical specifications defined in the previous phases, such as material and object properties, provide the model with the necessary information to extract measurements from the model. Consequently, by incorporating the economic variable, it is possible to obtain a highly accurate cost estimate.
The basis of this fundamental property, which provides information on whether the work is on budget, lies in the corresponding real-time measurement, which immediately produces any BIM model.
6D
The sixth dimension simulates the behaviour of energy saving and resource management systems, providing fundamental information for decision-making. As a result, it is possible to select the best techniques and technologies for each project, optimising power consumption and minimising environmental damage.
This property, moreover, if extended to the overall unit, can make an installation meet the highest standards of quality and energy efficiency, in accordance with the fundamentals of Lean Construction, BREEAM, Passivhaus, etc., depending on the type of installation.
7D
This dimension allows managing the lifetime of a project and the services associated with it. Consequently, through BIM, it is possible to know the real condition of the asset or the characteristics and location of all existing elements.
To this end, BIM-based control and maintenance management relies on the combination of all the information generated during the previous phases with other operation and maintenance data. Thus, by centralising all the information concerning the asset, it is possible to achieve comprehensive control.
In this sense, IDEA stands as a reference thanks to the BIM Digital Twin which, using the BIM base as a reference, represents the virtual replica of an object or system that simulates the behaviour of its real counterpart in order to monitor it and analyse its behaviour in certain situations and improve its efficiency. BIM Services
3D modelling can be done from existing 2D plans, from point clouds taken with a terrestrial laser scanner, or by developing the project in its entirety.
BIM modelling services may be required because a 3D BIM model is needed for the facility management of an industry or building, for interference detection in the model itself, to carry out site management, or because a virtual or augmented reality solution is required.
BIM 3D Modelling of metallic, concrete and mixed structures
3D BIM modelling of structures to define the structure as well as its related aspects (stairs, railings, vertical ladders, etc.) in great detail and with 3D connections to obtain a realistic final view at the project stage, thus verifying the suitability and constructability of the design for its subsequent manufacture.
We carry out the following tasks:
• Drafting of engineering drawings, manufacturing drawings (cutting and assembly) and assembly for metallic structures.
Drafting of engineering drawings, cast unit drawings (site cast and prefabricated) and reinforcements for concrete structures.
Real-time collection of all the project information (lists of materials, workshops, assembly stages, concrete volume, formwork surface, pouring stages, certifications…)
We use TEKLA STRUCTURES software.
Piping and Equipment Modelling
3D piping and equipment BIM modelling, using tools to design Industrial Plants, creating virtual models and ‘smart’ drawings that provide a final realistic vision in the project phase, to verify the suitability of the design and constructability for subsequent manufacture and monitoring of future modifications or extensions to the plants.
We use BIM tools such as Cadworx, Open Plant or SmartPlant 3D to perform the following steps in our designs:
The design tool includes structural steel, equipment, piping, supports, ductwork, process and instrumentation diagrams and design review.
Automated isometric drawings and material take-offs (MTOs). Adjusting to the needs of our clients.
Bi-directional links to other software ensure that models and related information are continually updated as changes are made.
Review cycles are sped up through interoperability with software that provides open data models.
We also use our specialised reverse engineering software, which makes it possible to obtain BIM models quickly from point clouds of plants built without existing BIM models. Obtaining in this way As-Built Models.
Architectural Modelling and MEP
IDEA understands architecture for the industrial sector as an engine to inspire and change. Our goal is to meet the needs and interests of our clients by combining ornament and structure.
All our projects are carried out using BIM/REVIT models for building design and construction (MEP), fully integrated with the rest of the disciplines within the same software to detect possible interferences in time and thus resolve any conflicts that may arise during project execution. We offer technical support from design to construction.
We develop parametric models for all disciplines, Architecture, MEP and/or Structure, for any level of definition or development (LOD 200 LOD 300, LOD 350, LOD 400 or LOD500), and while taking into account the application of the model, thus ensuring their usability throughout the lifetime of the building or infrastructure, including final ‘As-built’ model.
Development of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP)
Development of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), a contractual document, where the main agents and organisations involved throughout the lifetime of the project responsibly undertake to accept the specifications and conditions included.
A BEP aims to clearly define the objectives and scope of the project, specify the BIM applications, phases, and level of development of the BIM model(s). Structure and workflow are designed and responsibilities are assigned.
Finally, we offer the service of planning and developing all types of Virtual Reality (VR) experiences to suit different needs and objectives. Renders, animations and VR/AR. Immersive virtual reality allows the user to visualise the textures, dimensions of scenarios and architectural spaces as if they were real.
