IDEA is part of the project aimed at developing concrete without cement.<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]IDEA together with<\/strong> the Polytechnic University of Cartagena<\/strong><\/a>, the Construction Technology Centre of the Region of Murcia<\/strong><\/a>, the companies Cementos La Cruz<\/strong><\/a>, Construcciones Urdecon<\/strong><\/a> and Materiales Reciclados<\/strong><\/a> are developing a project to manufacture cement-free concrete<\/strong> that reduces greenhouse gas emissions.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Purpose” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23f6303e” google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_separator color=”custom” style=”dotted” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#cccccc”][vc_column_text]This project aims to develop near-zero carbon footprint geopolymers from different materials<\/strong> in order to replace the much more polluting conventional Portland cement in the production of concrete.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″]

This new cement can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80%.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”The problem” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23f6303e” google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_separator color=”custom” style=”dotted” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#cccccc”][vc_column_text]Cement manufacturing generates 8% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions and 5% of the CO2 generated annually in Spain, given that one of its main ingredients, clinker, needs to be fired at 1,400 degrees Celsius.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”New sustainable concrete” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23f6303e” google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_separator color=”custom” style=”dotted” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#cccccc”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]Well-known geopolymer concrete<\/strong>, made from industrial and urban waste materials, will be used in the manufacture of this new sustainable concrete in order to move forward towards decarbonisation<\/strong> and improved sustainability. Additionally, waste recovery will further contribute to the development of circular economy.<\/p>\n

These products will have a low carbon footprint compared to conventional<\/strong> concrete, as they will require much less energy to manufacture. The global cement industry is responsible for the emission of around four billion tonnes of greenhouse gases per year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>[vc_separator color=”custom” style=”dotted” border_width=”2″ accent_color=”#cccccc”][vc_single_image image=”62393″ img_size=”large” alignment=”right”][vc_column_text]Project financed through the Call for Public Grants aimed at financing Strategic projects included in the Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3MUR Strategy) by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, through the Regional Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment in the framework of the Region of Murcia ERDF Operational Programme 2014-2020 under Thematic Objective 1. Boost research, technological development and innovation by 80%, and with CARM’s own funds by 20%. <\/em>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]
